TICK TALK...CONTINUES..

So about the tick we mentioned a while ago. Yes we decided to send that ugly..ugly..tick across the country to Winnipeg so we could find out more and have it tested for lyme disease. As we were originally told the analysis of the tick could take 4 or 5 weeks, we made an appointment with Abby's Vet to seek his advice. We needed to know, if anything, we could be doing until the results were known. Dr. Barry discussed the possibilities but said that Abby should have been exhibiting some signs if she had been exposed. We had a good conversation and in the end we decided that we would give Abby a 10 day round of amoxil to rule out any possibility that she may develop lyme disease and more importantly to make us feel better. The Vet concluded that a round of antibiotics would not hurt her and it would allow us to stop worrying so it was a win-win situation. Two days after our visit to the Vet, the office called to say they had the results back and the tick tested negative for lyme disease so we stopped the antibiotics. We are certain our Vet thinks we are over protective but he humours us anyway!!
During our visit we asked Dr. Barry if he thought Abby was a bit "pudgy" and he said "yes". We said chubby, like her Mamma!!! We had her on Eukanuba Puppy until she reached 12 months and had just switched her to Eukanuba Maintenance for Large Breed so she may have been getting some extra calories in the puppy food. He did mention that she has nice muscular legs (not like her Mamma!!! LOL). We wanted her to get all the good nutrients necessary for a growing puppy.......apparently it works...she weighs 66 pounds. In addition, she had been getting extra treats during obedience training so we will keep her daily food portion the same, just cut back on the treats. Until next time...
