Tip Toe Through the Tulips.....

Abby has an obsession with getting into the garden and digging! We have roped off the flower garden and she has found other ways in....over the rope....through the rope....under the rope. We have replanted several plants on numerous occasions and only hope that once the perennials are up and out, she will respect the garden boundaries. She has been into the large wooden flower boxes that side the deck and in fact the other day she dug a hole about a foot deep in the flower boxes with the dirt landing all over the deck. This incident was just after a nice rain so the dirt did not come off of the deck easily. We carefully swept the deck, filled in the dirt, raked off the flower boxes and all was back to normal.....until...a repeat performance a couple of days later. If she wasn't so darn cute, we might be mad. We did some research to see why some dogs tend to be diggers and since her digging does not seem to be behavioural related, we concluded that the digging is a natural instinct for her. Wonderful! Looking back we remember that when we first adopted her, she worked hard to bury her bones in her flop bed, kennel, behind pillows or under blankets....clue number one.
Abby had a Vet appointment today, she loves Dr. Barry! She had blood work to test for heartworm before starting the Sentinel heartworm/flea treatment and that test came back negative so everything is well. She had been tested earlier but required a recheck. We had the Doctor check her baby tooth that did not fall out when the adult tooth came in right beside it. We had concerns this could cause a problem but he did not seem overly concerned at this point and said if the tooth does not fall out once the adult tooth is fully in, to bring her back and they will extract it under a light sedative. Dr. Barry said to just wiggle it a bit each day and it will probably fall out on its own, we hope mother nature will take care of this for us. Abby weighed 48 pounds! Dr. Barry said she is in great physical shape so to keep doing what we are doing with her. Yes siree, we would not want to miss that very important 6:00AM walk! Abby has an internal alarm clock that begins to woof around 5:30AM...again, one could get slightly upset if she wasn't so darn cute.
We are looking forward to our 5th class of obedience training this Thursday night. Abby was such a good girl at class last week we could hardly believe it ourselves! She just stood and looked at some of the other dogs as if to say "the Instructor said Down, what is your problem Buster?". She is extremely well behaved at class, unlike some of the"devil" like behaviour she exhibits at other times!! LOL Actually, the Instructors at obedience class have commented on how well behaved she is for only being 7 months old.
As we write this update, Abby is stretched out in her big floppy bed after a full day.....Wouldn't you like to be an Abby too? Until next time.....
