Abby loves the snow! She loves running, jumping, hiding, digging, shovelling and any other activity that involves snow. Fredericton has experienced a couple of significant storms in the past couple of weeks and Miss Abby has loved every minute of it. She has buried a few balls deep in the snow, oh well surprises for the Spring. She likes to stand at the end of the snowblower fountain of snow and jump to bite the white stuff! However, she does like to bark the entire time the blower is on which I am sure our neighbors love. Hey, she is a dog and when the humans get out the nice "snow tossing toy" that means fun fun fun for Abby. There was so much snow over the weekend that we had to go pack down her race track around the back yard to make it a bit easier for her to race around her speed way. She has funny little paths made in the snow and always goes on the same trip around the yard. One might think that she constructed her roads all around the perimeter of the yard, which is one of her paths, but she has criss crossed a few times to cut down time getting from front to back and side to side.
She has had a few challenges lately with an abscess on one of her anal glands that has required a few trips to Dr. Barry over the past several weeks.The problem started in November and she was put on antibiotics at that time which helped but only for a while until the problem returned. Another visit to the Vet after Christmas had the abscess drained again and another round of antibiotics. The problem was not clearing up so on Thursday of this week she had day surgery to have antibiotics inserted directly into the gland/abscess. We are hopeful that this will resolve the problem but have discussed all options with the Vet, which we have tried.... surgery is the last resort and we hope that we don't have to go down that road as surgery is quite invasive, along with some risks.
Two weeks ago we took Abby to a flyball class to see if she would be interested in participating in flyball. Although she liked the social aspect of flyball, she is not a flyball kind of dog! We watched a Border Collie fly over the little fences faster than a speeding train and then it was Abby's turn, she sort of liked the fences but went around them half of the time and really showed not much interest in the faced paced sport. The instructor discussed what is required to compete and we thought "we are just looking for some fun" so we might try it another night but really think after attending the information session that it might not be for her. Abby is a laid back sort of dog so we will find another fun activity for her.
Abby had a visit from baby Vivianne yesterday. She licked Vivianne toes and smelled all of the baby blankets and things. She is super good around the baby and is interested but not aggressive. Of course she is a dog so we are very careful of supervising all the interaction. We think that Abby and Vivianne will be good friends as time goes on.
Abby is on her bed sleeping after chasing flying snow today. Until next time.....
