HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

Miss Abby, our designer Boxahoula, turns 2 years old today!  We do not know where the time has gone, it seems like yesterday. She likes to hop up and sit on the bench outside so that is where her birthday picture was taken. Abby is an important part of our lives and she continues to make us laugh on a daily basis with her playful antics and puppy like actions.  She enjoys her early morning walk everyday but when she arrives home she runs through the house straight to the dining room and proceeds to take 3 or 4 fast laps around the table....same routine every morning! The dining room is the only room in the house with carpet so she gets good traction! She continues to carry items around the house in her mouth like she has the best toy ever, no matter what the item is. She will for example, snag a towel from the bathroom  and then present it to you...it is her invitation to come and play. She still likes a nice large bone for a treat from time to time but her need to keep this treat in a secret hiding place causes her distress.  Once she has finished chewing the bone, the panic sets in....she needs to hide it (from the cats we assume)! We find big old bones under livingroom cushions, in the corner of the sofa, under bedroom pillows, rolled up in her bed, in her toy box or where ever she has found a secret place, safe from everyone. The funny thing is that she remembers where she has hidden the bone because she will become agitated if one of the cats goes close to where her treasure is hidden (even if they have no idea the problem they seem to cause)!  We know when she is protecting a hidden bone because she goes close to where he bone is, whines and looks at us and then looks at the cat and back at us as if to say "hello, can't you see what is happening here?". We always help her out and scoop up the cat so she can relax but when the opportunity presents itself, the bone gets moved to another location!  Abby is getting better with her feline siblings but life for the cats has not been the same since Abby arrived.  She likes to play but they don't appreciate the big old paw coming down across their little body and as much as we have tried to help the situation, Abby likes to play a bit ruff with the kitties. She loves going to the doggie park, which she does a couple of times a week and she loves people and other doggies where ever she goes.  We have talked a bit over the past couple of months about the idea of getting another dog so Abby would have a playmate. In early August we made an inquiry about a dog at the Charlotte County SPCA named Nutmeg but after a few emails back and forth we found out that Nutmeg had been adopted by another family at the same time we were making our inquiry...not meant to be this time. Miss Biz is all we need for now.  On this birthday we are reminded of Delia, Abby's Foster Mother, at Paws and Claws New England who rescued Little Abby from a Shelter, loved and cared for her and gave her a second chance at life. We are forever thankful for the good work of these rescue organizations and Shelters like our local SPCA.  http://www.frederictonspca.ca/  http://www.petfinders.com/  Until next time......
