ONE YEAR AGO...JANUARY 09 JANUARY 10

January 2009....January 2010!
It was one year ago, the second Saturday of January 2009 (January 10, 2009), when we first saw little Abby doggie in person. We drove to Windham, New Hampshire, USA to pick up our special delivery...travelling through the States of Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. We remember Abby being handed to us by the nice man who safely transported her and the other doggies from Arkansas...it was a long drive for our new puppy. She was the first puppy off of the large van probably because we were the first people in line! We remember seeing her and thinking that she was even more cute than any of her pictures.... and her pictures were pretty darn cute. Where has the time gone? In some ways it seems like she has been a part of our family for more than a year and other ways where did the year go? We have tried to work with Abby (in a fun way) this past year, taking her to basic obedience training, exposing her to various social situations, visiting lots of other doggies and playing with dogs at the city dog park. She has been on a few overnights, stayed in a hotel, travelled to the Nation's Capital, Ottawa, swam in the Atlantic Ocean, opened Christmas presents, brought in the New Year with her friend Piper doggie and so much more. We remind her sometimes when she is being a bit saucey that she lives the good life! She has taken the entire 12 months to establish any relationship with her aging feline brothers and sister! They are slowing coming to a mutual understanding of who belongs where but sometimes Abby forgets but...it is getting much better. The real only damage Abby has done in her short time with us is chewing 3 of the good dining room chairs....we do not know what instigated the nibbling because she had been left alone in the house several times prior to the "incident" with no problems...maybe the car left the driveway and the Princess was not in it and she thought she would teach us a lesson!

All in all we feel so blessed to share our lives with this little fur person we call Abigail VonSaucy Pants aka Abby. We often say that we could not have selected a more wonderful dog even if we had been given the chance to place a custom order! We put our total faith in a person who we did not know as we worked out the details for the adoption of a dog we had never met. We have to say we feel like we won the doggie lottery! Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer, says that often you don't get the dog you want, you get the dog you need. We look forward to many, many years ahead with Abby, the dog we needed. Until next time......
