HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY ABBY DOGGIE

Abby Doggie will turn 4 years old on October 1st...where has the time gone?  Although Abby's Blog is not updated on a regular basis, she continues to provide us lots of laughs by her shenanigans. We tend to think her life as that of an average dog but sometimes we do wonder if other doggies enjoy the finer things in life like she does.  Where to start with her Summer?  The pictures above are from a golfing trip to Nova Scotia where we stayed at small cottages over looking the Northumberland Strait. She loved cruising the beach chasing little sand pipers and of course swimming. She had big sleeps after very full vacation days! As you can see from one of the pictures above she is pooped and sharing the futon with her human!  Unfortunately, she had to be kept on a long rope when hanging around the cottages because there were several other visitors and she likes to check things out and can travel much faster than we can.  She met a few other doggies over the weekend.
Abby was one of several rescue stories featured in a fundraising book published by the Paws and Claws New England, the organization where we found Abby. Her foster Mother Delia submitted her story to the book and told of Abby's rescue and subsequent adoption.
Abby enjoys her daily walks and her drives in the car.  She has developed a nice relationship with baby Vivianne. They have a mutual respect for each others boundaries although sometimes Vivianne gets on Abby's bed and Abby enjoys a treat that has dropped on the floor.
Abby was sprayed by a skunk this summer, right in our own yard!  Could it have been on an evening when we were here by ourselves...NO, we were having a dinner party that evening. Dinner was over and we were sitting around the table enjoying dessert and conversation when Abby wanted out. As normal, we opened the patio door and out she goes.  After a few minutes one of the guests said "wow that skunk smell is close".....indeed it was!  Abby was sprayed in the face AND to make matters worse, she had just had a growth removed from her lip a couple of days prior and had stitches making it difficult to wash and wipe her face. Thank heavens it was a warm summer evening because we kept her outside and immediately hosed her down. She was very miserable and trying to get the spray off her face was rolling on the lawn so we quickly tried to find out what would help. We mixed up a "solution" (peroxide, baking soda and dishsoap) that we found on the internet for such an occasion and applied that to a wet, squirming, stinky dog! We of course smelled almost as bad as the dog by that point.  The homemade solution worked wonderfully but we ended up staying outside almost an hour with Abby and by the time we had Abby half way presentable, we realized that the guests had completely cleaned up from dinner, food organized, leftovers in the fridge and dishes washed. Thanks Abby Doggie.
Abby continues to enjoy the canine nursing home visitation evenings.  We are not sure if she enjoys visiting the residents or just likes the treats they have ready for her and the other dogs!! The residents so love this evening and it is nice that Abby can participate.
In June she attended the Fredericton SPCA's fundraiser Bark in the Park as she does every year.
Abby is pleased to announce that baby Vivianne is expecting a new baby sister in January so she will have yet another little one to play with (and drop treats). 
We wish that Abby would just stop aging and stay four years old forever!  She is our sweet little girl wrapped in a beige fur coat.  We love that little doggie so much and she loves us too.  Happy Birthday Abby Doggie.  Until next time.......
