WASN'T THAT A PARTY! HAPPY 2010 FRIENDS.

Abby enjoyed another road trip to visit her friends in Moncton for New Years Eve. The handsome doggie looking in the window is a neighbor dog who comes to play with Piper, Abby's friend, on a regular basis...his name is Lucky. Lucky is a great name for this lucky fellow. About 4 years ago his current owners son found him chained to a tree in the woods with a broken leg. The very patient boy stayed and talked to the dog for a long time until the dog was calm enough to let the boy remove the chain. His new found family cared for his broken leg, which required extensive surgery, and gave him lots of TLC during his recovery. As good luck would have it, Lucky found a permanent home with this loving family. They think Lucky is approximately 5 years old now. He loves other dogs but is still quite timid around humans (as can be expected with how he was treated). Lucky fell in LOVE with Abby and she liked him too and she cried when Lucky went home for the night! She ran from door to door whimpering looking for Lucky. The little group of doggies enjoyed playing outside and inside and all over each other for New Years Eve. Abby is the spring chicken of the group so she was like the energizer bunny and just wanted the other dogs to keep playing. Piper, the 11 year old Airdale, had enough at one point and gave Abby a warning growl....back off Sister! Early this morning, just like clock work, Lucky arrived back to play in the dog run with Abby and Piper. We gave all the doggies treats and Abby demonstrated her trick of hiding the bone in the couch! The other adults found this quite amusing. Abby gets the treat, finds the perfect location to "hide" it, digs the blanket/quilt back to reveal a corner of the couch and she sticks the treat deep into a corner of the couch and then with her nose rearranges the blanket back into its position to cover up the treat! She is quite fussy about this and sometimes has to dig the treat out and hide it again until it is all perfect! She has always done this but we sometimes forget that other people have not witnessed her "talent" and are surprised when they say "what is she doing?". We explain that she likes to bury little treats and toys only to find them later....about 5 minutes later!! Poor little Abby was so tired that she slept in the backseat for the 1.5 hour drive home to Fredericton.
It is getting close to a year ago that we left for New Hampshire to pick up our little girl, the year has gone by so quickly. We have made it through the puppy stage, or mostly through the puppy stage, without incident. We have watched her grow from a 20 pound puppy when we adopted her to a whopping 65 pound full grown dog one year later. Abby was the perfect dog for us and I guess in some ways we were the perfect home for her. She certainly is the Queen in this house...just ask her feline siblings! We love everything about her, such a wonderful personality, gentle, snuggly, happy doggie........Until next time.
