Abby loves St. Andrews, New Brunswick! In her short 2 night stay at the Algonquin she quickly became known to hotel staff and especially to the nice people at the Reception Desk. On day two we walked by the desk and the nice lady said "hi Abby". Abby took several trips in the hotel elevator but really preferred to take the nice carpeted stairs to the third floor. As you can see from the picture above, she took a rest on the little kid stairs in the foyer. She enjoyed just sitting there greeting people who were coming and going. During check-in on Friday night the hotel staff mentioned that we could have a fire in the fire pit area on the front lawn so after a nice dinner at the Harbour Front restaurant, we all headed to the fire pit area. We should mention that friends also brought their dog so Abby had Lucy, a rambunctious 3 year old purebred boxer, to play with all weekend.
Saturday morning at 7:00AM, just like clockwork, Abby was ready to go! We headed out for a walk and actually watched the sun rise over the beautiful Bay of Fundy. We stopped at a little coffee shop named Honeybeans and bought nice flavoured coffee to go and continued on our way. We walked out a long wooden pier and Abby really enjoyed watching the seagulls along the way. The men on the pier were busy preparing boats for the day and with the sun beginning to rise it really was a Kodak moment. As usual, little Abby cooperated and sat quietly letting us snap away! That dog could have been in pictures!
On Saturday afternoon we found a fenced-in ball field where Lucy and Abby could have a good run. As we were entering the field we noticed a sign that said "no pets allowed"...oh no, what to do? We concluded it really would be okay to have just a "little" run so we entered and took the dogs off leash. Both the dogs ran around chasing each other and after about 15 minutes both were exhausted. After keeping a "look-out" for any ball park authorities, we were relieved our playing was completed without incident! LOL
On our way out of town on Sunday, we visited a few of the quaint little shops located along Water Street and Abby was welcomed in most of them. We were pleasantly surprised how dog friendly the whole weekend was.
Abby does not really like the new Toyota Venza which is causing a bit of a problem with travelling. Although we kept her in mind with two "must have" features on any new vehicle (leather seats and a sun roof) she will not settle like she did in the Nissan so this made the 1.5 hour drive home not so relaxing as she kept wanting into the front seat. Now there is just not enough room in the front seat for a person and a 65 pound dog and further more it just is not safe. In the new vehicle she is further away from us than she was in the older vehicle so she wanted closer! We kept saying "Abby get in the back" but apparently she was having a problem with her hearing on Sunday! She wanted in the front seat so badly that she stood with her front paws on the arm rest while her two back feet balanced on the back seat with her eyes slowly getting sleepy, but she would not give in! After swaying back and forth between the two seats with closed eyes we convinced her to lay down in the back seat but only because I swung my arm around into the back seat and held her paw. We are hoping this is only temporary as she loves going in the car and we want her to enjoy her outings with us.
